Privacy Policy

Audiopian runs almost entirely in your browser. We don’t have accounts, we don’t run analytics, and our own servers store essentially nothing about you. The one thing you should know: to score your singing, your microphone audio is sent to a third-party speech-recognition service — Google by default, or OpenAI if you opt in. Details below.
1. Who we are
Audiopian (“we,” “the Service”) is a free, browser-based singing game operated as an independent project. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
2. What we collect (almost nothing)
We don’t ask you to create an account, and we don’t run advertising or analytics trackers. When you search for a song or load one, your request passes through our lyrics lookup and song-resolver, which are hosted on Cloudflare. Like virtually all web hosts, Cloudflare may process standard connection data (such as your IP address and a timestamp) and keep short-lived logs to deliver and protect the Service. We don’t use this to build a profile of you.
3. Your microphone — please read
Audiopian needs your microphone to hear you sing and score it. What happens to that audio depends on which recognizer is active:
- Default — your browser’s speech recognition. Audiopian uses the Web Speech API built into Chrome and Edge. In those browsers, your microphone audio is sent to Google’s servers to be turned into text, under Google’s privacy policy. Audiopian never receives or stores this audio.
- Optional — your own OpenAI key. If you turn on sharper recognition and provide an OpenAI key, your microphone audio is streamed to OpenAI to be transcribed, under OpenAI’s policies. Audiopian never receives or stores this audio.
In both cases, we don’t record, save, or upload your singing to Audiopian’s servers. If you don’t want your audio processed this way, don’t grant microphone access (you won’t be able to play scored mode).
4. What’s stored on your device
Audiopian saves a few things in your browser’s local storage, which stays on your device — we can’t see it:
- your OpenAI API key, if you add one (sent only to OpenAI);
- your high score and recent match history;
- small preferences (such as difficulty).
You can clear these at any time using your browser’s “clear site data,” or the in-app button that removes your saved key.
5. Third-party services
Audiopian relies on services with their own privacy practices:
- YouTube / Google — the embedded player that streams the backing track. It may set cookies and collect data per Google’s Privacy Policy, even before a video plays.
- Google Web Speech — default speech recognition (see section 3).
- OpenAI — optional speech recognition, only if you provide a key.
- lrclib.net — supplies lyrics; receives your song search and selection.
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and the lookups.
We don’t control these services and aren’t responsible for their practices; please review their policies.
6. Cookies & similar technologies
Audiopian itself doesn’t set advertising or tracking cookies. We use local storage as described above. Embedded third-party content (the YouTube player) may set its own cookies.
7. Children
Audiopian isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you’re under 13, please don’t use it.
8. Your choices & rights
You can decline microphone access, skip the optional OpenAI key, clear your locally-stored data, and use your browser’s privacy controls. Because we don’t collect personal data on our own servers, there’s little for us to access or delete — but if you have a question, or you’re in a region with privacy rights (such as the EEA, UK, or California) and want to exercise them, email privacy@audiopian.com. Where your data is handled by Google, OpenAI, YouTube, or Cloudflare, those requests are best directed to them.
9. Security
We minimize risk by not holding your data: your key stays in your browser and goes only to OpenAI. That said, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
10. Changes
We may update this policy; we’ll change the date above when we do.
